Few county races hold interest in general election

MORGAN COUNTY

Barring multiply candidates for the school board races, Morgan County will only have seven contested county offices for the November election.

Except for school boards, the time for people to file for office has passed. As expected, most offices have only one candidate running for the position.

The two contested county races are council districts 2 and 4.

Democrat Kimberly Milford has filed to run against Republican incumbent Paul Prather in District 2.

Douglas Gioe, a Democrat, has filed to run against Republican incumbent David Zoller in District 4.

All other offices — including county commissioner, sheriff, circuit court Judge, prosecutor, county clerk, auditor, assessor, and county council seats in Districts 1 and 3 — are unopposed.

For towns, only Paragon will have a contested race.

Jason Martin, a Republican, is running against Randy Reigel, an Independent, for town council District 1.

In Brooklyn, Ray Young, a Republican, has withdrawn from the election. Mitchell Moore, an Independent, is running unopposed for the at-large council position.

All other town elections — including Mooresville, Morgantown and Monrovia — have unopposed elections.

In the townships, Colleen Springate, a Democrat, has filed to run for trustee against incumbent Mark Harris, a Republican, for the Brown Township Trustee position. The county election office had been notified that Springate was going to withdraw from the election, but as of July 10, the office had not received notice from Springate that she was withdrawing.

Also in Brown Township, Libertarian Danny Lundy is running against Republicans Christopher Hester, Adam Johnson and Steven Oschman for three township advisory board positions.

In Clay Township, Democrat Gregory Ray is running against Republicans Anthony Burns, John Phillips, and Willa Pugh for three township advisory board positions.

In Madison Township, Melvin Bolden Jr., a Democrat, has filed to run against Republican Scott McDonough for the trustee position.

All other township races are unopposed.

School board races

All five school districts in Morgan County will have positions up for the election.

The MSD of Martinsville will have two positions up for the election. The Monroe Gregg School system will also have two positions, the Eminence School District will have three positions, and the Mooresville School District will have three position up for the election.

The NHJ School District will have one position, which represents Jackson Township, up for election. For a person to run for that position, they must live in the school district area in Jackson Township.
