Appointees weigh in on new posts
MOORESVILLE
A new year means new faces on some of Mooresville’s boards and commissions following new appointments made by the Mooresville Town Council.
At the first meeting of the year on Jan. 2, the town council made three new appointments. Councilwoman Jessica Hester was appointed to the Mooresville Planning Commission, councilman Dustin Stanley was appointed to the Mooresville Redevelopment Commission (RDC) and citizen Danny Lundy was appointed to the Mooresville Police Commission.
In the interest of helping readers get to know a bit more about their newly appointed officials, the Mooresville-Decatur Times reached out to all three new appointees with a series of questions via email.
All of the appointees said they were thankful for their respective council appointments and looking forward to having a positive impact on the community of Mooresville.
“I am excited to serve with the Mooresville RDC,” said Stanley. “With the recently added property and potential development, this could help Mooresville businesses, both current and in the future.”
Lundy shared a similar sentiment when asked about his reaction to the recent appointment.
“Grateful and excited,” said Lundy. “I’m happy to serve the community in any way I can. I’m appreciate the Town Council showing their faith and support in appointing me to this important role.”
Likewise, Hester stated that she was excited for the opportunity to increase her knowledge and further serve the community.
“I am excited to be apart of the planning commission and to learn and contribute even more to the community,” said Hester.
When asked what they were doing to prepare for their new roles of RDC member, police commissioner and planning commissioner, the three gave varying answers, with Stanley highlighting the ways in which he has been involved in aspects of the community affected by the work of the RDC.
“To prepare, I have been trying to make myself even more assessable [sic] and gather community feedback,” said Stanley. “I believe driving information to the public is a part that I can help with. I have been going to chamber of commerce, community and charity events gathering this feedback. I have also been attending meetings and researching information from other towns, and cities to see if there are any ideas that could help the Mooresville RDC.”
Lundy noted that although his appointment was somewhat of a surprise, he had already begun reading in order to prepare himself before the first commission meeting.
“This was brought to me kind of last minute,” said Lundy. “While I have a pretty good understanding of what the role will entail, I’m currently reading up on the commission’s role and responsibilities in more detail.”
For her part, Hester said that she had begun engaging other members of the planning commission in conversation in order to help ready herself.
“I have talked to other board members to help prepare me for the upcoming meetings,” said Hester.
When asked about how how he felt about the his new roles and responsibilities, Stanley responded with optimism.
“I feel tremendous excitement about the future of Mooresville,” said Stanley. “The potential for new business growth is starting to pick up steam. We have a desire to grow but also maintain our small-town identity. I feel we can constantly learn and apply from past projects to make future projects better for everyone.”
When asked the same question, Lundy responded likewise, stating that he saw the appointment as an opportunity to do good for Mooresville and it’s residents.
“I take this opportunity very seriously,” said Lundy. “Being on the Police Commission gives me the chance to really make a difference for the residents of my home town. It feels like starting any new job, I’m excited, a little nervous, and very much looking forward to getting to work. There is a lot we need to get done and I’m thrilled that I get to be a part of it.”
Hester simply noted that the position was another way for her to help the town of Mooresville.
“This role is another way for me to help make a positive impact on our community,” said Hester.
