PD chief gives update on patrol cars, new hires
MOORESVILLE
The Mooresville Police Commission received department updates from Mooresville Metropolitan Police Department Chief Richard Allen at Thursday night’s brief meeting.
Allen informed the commission that the department’s new vehicles had been painted, outfitted and put into service on the road. According to Allen, the department has one vehicle still in for repair.
Allen also told the commission that work on the department’s new police station was going well, noting the recent installation of dispatch consoles in the building.
“They’re moving right along,” said Allen.
Allen also informed the commission that the department had selected three applicants to fill the vacant officer positions and asked the commission’s approval to offer the applicants conditional offers of employment pending psychological evaluation.
“We’ve basically finished our applications process,” said Allen. “We have three good applicants.”
Commission member Danny Lundy made a motion to grant permission to Allen to proceed with the conditional offers for the applicants.
Allen presented department statistics for the month of February to the commission. Allen reported 212 incident reports, 51 arrest reports, 124 citations, 259 warnings and 1,920 computer-aided dispatch calls. Allen also said that in February, there were 32 accident reports, 30 instances of property damage, two personal injuries with no hit-and-runs or fatalities. According to Allen, there were 409 total 911 calls for February. Allen also stated that the department had reported 80 hours of comp time, 163 hours of overtime and 19,285 miles for mileage.
In other business
• Mooresville Police Commission attorney Charles Braun informed the commission that he regularly checked the Indiana General Assembly for relevant legislation and said that he would report any legislation that could affect the police department or the commission, if any came up.
• The commission chose to approve the minutes from the previous meeting unanimously after a motion to do so from Mooresville Police Commissioner Fred Settle.
The next meeting of the Mooresville Police Commission will be at 6 p.m. on April 18 at the Mooresville Police Station, 104 W. Main St.
