About

Our Mission

The Libertarian Party of Morgan County seeks a principled and innovative approach to local government; inclusive communication with the public, and accountability for our officials.

Our Philosophy

In short it’s quite simple: Don’t hurt people & don’t take their stuff. If you aren’t hurting anyone or taking their stuff, then the government probably should not be involved.

The Libertarian Party is based on the philosophy of Liberty. That’s the belief that no other person can have a higher claim on your Life, your Liberty, and your Property than you. Likewise, you cannot have a higher claim on anyone else’s Life, Liberty, or Property either.

Another common tenet of Libertarian philosophy is The Non-Aggression Principle (NAP). The NAP is a concept in which aggression, defined as initiating or threatening any forceful interference with either an individual or their property, is inherently wrong. In contrast to pacifism, the NAP does not forbid forceful defense.

Our History

The Libertarian Party of Morgan County (LPMC) held its Organizing Convention on October 13th, 2016. It subsequently filed its statement of organization with Morgan County on October 19th, 2016, and received our affiliation with the Libertarian Party of Indiana shortly after.

The LPMC was awarded the Bill Bean County Affiliate of the Year Award for two consecutive years at the Libertarian Party of Indiana state convention in 2020  and 2021.

In May 2021, the Libertarian National Convention’s Affiliate Support Committee selected Morgan County as the winner of its Affiliate in a Box contest. This earned the LPMC $1,000 to help grow its Morgan County presence by investing in opportunities to share beliefs within the community.
